Did you know that not all Christian denominations celebrate Lent? Many do. Those who are Roman Catholic, Episcopalian, Eastern Orthodox and United Methodist usually observe the season. It is a time of sacrifice and self-denial.
Lent isn't found in the Bible. The season is born out of a tradition that began a few hundred years after Jesus. We are looking at the traditional aspects of Lent and what it means to give something up. The sermon is going to be heavily drawn from an article that I wrote several years ago.
